Primary Immunodeficiency (PI) affects as many as 1 million Americans and 10 million worldwide. Yet, it is just beginning to receive widespread attention. When a defect in the immune system is carried through the genes, it is called a Primary Immunodeficiency. More than 150 Primary Immunodeficiency diseases have been identified to date. Early diagnosis and treatment of Primary Immunodeficiency disease is essential to preventing the infections from causing permanent damage. This website began as a discussion of employment issues when an individual receives treatment for pulmonary infections that results from a primary immunodeficiency. The response of the internet community was exceptional, and I realized that each person's story and needs are unique. Although I would ultimately like to create an internet support community with references to doctors, hospitals, and legal resources, for now, you can reach me through email at Kara.Hewett@gmail.com. Also the Jeffrey Modell Foundation at Harvard Medical School is the most prominent and successful resource.
